The
clouds are like in the picture I cant stop staring at these days. My
eyes become adjusted to the strip of light, I am transfixed by the
line of the sky. The lid the clouds make over the water, the
mountains, the city. These mountains never get old in their
strangeness and the vertigo steepness with which they shoot up into
the the clouds. The city is under a shadow, grey as wet concrete,
dark. I look away and can't see inside the cabin at all. Cover my
eyes and there's a yellow Star Trek Jordy strip it makes me laugh.
The capped peaks...the birds, the green waves, the light on the
water... Never gets old.
Going to the city to fix up this camper I
bought sight unseen since I was told there was no housing and I'm not
ready to count on someone I don't know. To stay in a dudes house that
I've never met. Bought, paid for, and just got the call from the head
nurse in charge that I can stay in nurses housing after all. Well,
now I have a camper. For fucks sake.
Meeting
with my Bella Coola practicum supervisor, G P in Richmond
went well. We talked about confidentiality of patient information,
about the organization of the hospital and her outreach. How the
provincial and federal agencies governing health care maintain a
complex relationship that supports the integrated services in this
area. We talked about the roles I may take, being sure to establish
the fact of my being a temporary face from the outset. Sitting,
visiting with those in care, participating in youth lunch programs
and elder dinner clubs, focused on healthy eating and socializing. We
spoke about the upcoming canoe gathering in Bella Bella, and the
logistics of it. How I may be able to help somehow. At last we talked
about the database systems she uses, which sound complicated, but can
only be made sense of I'm sure through familiarization and use. She
also listed so many names of people I could speak to, work with, or
interview about their roles as social work involved workers in the
valley and surrounding areas. When she asked if I had any questions,
I asked the ones I had on my mind:
“Which
cel phone provider works there?”
“Is
there a gym or a rec centre?” ,
“Can
I get wifi?”, and,
“Are
there any hot springs nearby?”
She
paused and asked if I had any questions about the work. I told her
that like any job, I would find out when I started. The work is the
work. She smiled- finally- I thought I might have fucked up. These A
Type personality nurses are all business sometimes...
